A foreign motorcyclist remained unidentified in Phuket after a hit-and-run injured a Thai teenager in Rawai on May 10, according to the boy’s mother. She said the crash happened at about 2.30pm when the rider, traveling with two passengers, abruptly changed lanes and struck her son’s motorcycle.
Injuries and damage shown in images
The collision threw the teenager off control and left him seriously hurt at the scene, his mother said.
Images later shared on the Phuket Times Facebook page showed injuries to his left leg, right knee and both arms. The boy’s red Honda Wave also suffered visible damage, mainly along its left side.
Mother says rider fled toward Promthep Cape
After the impact, the foreign rider allegedly sped off, ran a red light and headed toward Promthep Cape to avoid responsibility, according to the mother.
She said she filed a police report and obtained CCTV footage herself. She also claimed the motorcycle’s registration plate was clearly visible, but no action had followed and there had been no progress in the case.
Frustrated by the lack of response, she turned to Facebook to ask the public for help identifying the suspect and to push for action. Police had not publicly identified the rider or released any investigation update.
A similar case was reported in February in Patong district, where a foreign pickup driver fled after hitting three motorcycles. A Thai bystander jumped onto the rear of the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, but fell when the driver accelerated away; he was not seriously injured.
