Foreign tourist couple accused of shoplifting in Phuket

Two foreign tourists described as a couple have been accused of shoplifting at businesses in Patong and Rawai, Phuket, according to social media reports.

The Phuket Times Facebook page reported that a Thai woman saw the pair allegedly placing several products inside a bag at a convenience store in Patong. She alerted a member of staff before the tourists reached the checkout, the report said.

The tourists allegedly denied taking merchandise when questioned, but the woman claimed staff later found unpaid products concealed in their bag.

The Phuket Times subsequently reported a separate allegation involving a clothing shop in Rawai. The pair were accused of taking trousers valued at B1,595, with the woman allegedly acting as a lookout while the man took the item. The post also claimed they high-fived afterwards, although that detail had not been verified.

French-language outlet ZoneSamui repeated allegations about both incidents on 12 October, citing social media footage and surveillance images. The reports did not establish that police had confirmed the alleged thefts. The tourists’ nationalities, the dates of the alleged incidents and whether the shops filed formal complaints remain unclear.
