The source said the man shouted insults at Thai nationals and chased people along a street during the incident. A traditional Muay Thai and sword-fighting instructor from a nearby gym then intervened and used a blade to defend against him.
The injured foreigner sustained a severe wound to his arm, the source said. No official police report was filed.
According to the source, the injured man initially demanded 50,000 baht for medical treatment. The Thai instructor reportedly paid 13,000 baht toward the medical bills instead.
A friend of the injured man later complained to the media that the money covered only initial wound cleaning and bandaging.
