Former Nonthaburi MP surrenders after PAO chief dies in shooting

Former Nonthaburi MP Chalong Riewrang surrendered to police on Monday, 10 August 2026, after the chief executive of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) was fatally shot and the official’s driver was wounded.

Police received a report of the shooting at the PAO office in Mueang Nonthaburi district and found Pol Col Thongchai Yenprasert and his driver suffering from gunshot injuries. Both were taken to hospital, but Thongchai later died at Pranangklao Hospital.

Police identified Chalong as the alleged gunman. He later surrendered at a police station.

Chalong told police that the shooting followed a dispute over an alleged B11 million debt. He claimed Thongchai had been a close friend whom he had supported, but that the PAO chief had not helped when he faced difficulties. Chalong also said he had made political concessions, including agreeing not to field a parliamentary candidate against Thongchai.

According to Chalong’s account, he visited to collect the alleged debt and became angry after Thongchai said he had no money to repay it. Police cordoned off the area, gathered evidence and questioned witnesses as they investigated the circumstances and motive ahead of legal proceedings.
