Four foreign nationals arrested at Phuket Airport over alleged cannabis smuggling

Four foreign nationals were arrested at Phuket Airport after customs officers allegedly found more than 33.6kg of cannabis concealed in their luggage, according to a CrimeAsia report.

The group was intercepted at the international departures terminal on 27 July as they prepared to leave Thailand. The report identified the suspects as 19-year-old Swiss national Sean Cassidy Buzzi, 18-year-old French national Shaina Myriam Khadija El Gharib, 18-year-old Swiss national Marcus Frimpong and 26-year-old French national Alassane Justin Luciano Ahmada Djae.

Searches allegedly found cannabis flowers and processed cannabis hidden in four separate suitcases. CrimeAsia reported that all four suspects told officers during initial questioning that the luggage and seized drugs belonged to them.

They were charged with smuggling goods out of the country without passing through customs procedures and handed over to Sakhu Police Station for legal proceedings, the report said.
