Four rescued after cargo boat sinks off Phuket-Phang Nga boundary
All four people aboard the cargo boat Supaporn 5 were rescued after the vessel sank in rough seas between Koh Naka and Koh Yao near the Phuket-Phang Nga boundary, police said.
A cargo boat carrying four people sank in rough seas between Koh Naka and Koh Yao on Thursday afternoon, but all aboard were rescued safely, according to Thalang Police.
The vessel, identified as Supaporn 5, had departed Bang Rong Pier in Pa Khlok and was transporting goods to Koh Yao in Phang Nga. Police said the boat encountered large waves and capsized in waters near the Phuket-Phang Nga provincial boundary.
Thalang Police received a report of the incident at about 4:30pm, according to a report filed by Thalang Police Superintendent Pol Col Nikorn Chuthong.
Police said there were four people on board: one captain and three crew members. All were rescued by passing jet-ski operators and tourist boats that came to their assistance.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, and all four crew members were confirmed safe.
Recovery efforts for the sunken vessel are underway. Authorities have not yet released further details on the extent of the damage or the value of the cargo lost.
