French fugitive arrested in Phuket on Interpol Red Notice

Police in Phuket arrested 29-year-old French national Yanis Chirrane on July 2, saying he was wanted on an Interpol Red Notice requested by Luxembourg authorities.

A 29-year-old French fugitive wanted in connection with kidnapping, armed robbery and other alleged offences was arrested in Phuket on July 2, according to police.

Police identified the man as Yanis Chirrane. They said he was detained during a raid on his resort room on the island.

Authorities said Chirrane was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice requested by Luxembourg authorities.

Police said he is accused of participating in a criminal organisation, laundering money obtained through criminal activity, kidnapping, unlawful detention, hostage-taking, armed robbery committed by two or more offenders, as well as extortion and blackmail.

Photos released by police showed officers detaining Chirrane in his room while he was wearing red boxers.
