A French national was arrested in Phuket on April 21 after allegedly assaulting a Thai man at the entrance of Malin Plaza Market during the Songkran festival, police said. The incident, which occurred earlier this month in Patong, left the victim, Mr. Veerasak, with serious injuries and prompted a formal complaint to investigators at Patong Police Station.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
After the suspect fled the scene, Patong police collected witness statements and forensic evidence before securing an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court. Officers apprehended the French man under the warrant and transferred him to Patong Police Station for interrogation.
Authorities confirmed the suspect faces charges of “assault causing bodily harm,” a criminal offense under Thai law. Police emphasized that the arrest reflects their focus on maintaining public safety during major festivals, noting that large crowds and alcohol consumption can increase the risk of violent incidents.
