A 28-year-old French tourist was seriously injured after shooting himself in the head at a shooting range in Kathu, Phuket, police said.

A 28-year-old French tourist was seriously injured after shooting himself in the head at a shooting range in Kathu, Phuket, on 28 September, police said.

Police were alerted at about 2.30pm and sent officers and Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation rescuers to the range. Staff took the man to Vachira Phuket Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Krit Chantaraphirom, a range supervisor, told police that the tourist had bought 10 rounds of ammunition and fired about four or five shots at a target before firing one shot into his own head.

Kathu police were investigating the circumstances, including reviewing CCTV footage and collecting evidence at the scene.
