Government spokesperson urges Phuket MP to clarify alleged nominee property case

A Thai government spokesperson on Friday urged the People's Party and Phuket MP Somchat Techathaworncharoen to clarify his alleged involvement in a case concerning nominee ownership of property and condominiums in Phuket.

Dr Ekaphop Pienphiset, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, said at Government House on 18 September 2026 that the government's policy was to pursue suspected nominee arrangements, money laundering and other illegal transactions without exemptions or negotiations.

He said the Justice Ministry and relevant agencies had summoned the MP three times to provide information to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), but that he had continued to seek postponements. The summonses concerned a case involving alleged nominee ownership of real estate and condominium units in Phuket, according to the report.

Pienphiset said political parties should take responsibility for members linked to suspected illegal activity and that the MP should clarify the matter to the public and respond to investigators. He warned that further delays could allow assets to be transferred or moved, potentially affecting the investigation.
