GULF to provide 16,000 meals to Bangkok flood-affected communities

Gulf Development Public Company Limited (GULF) will provide 16,000 freshly prepared meals to communities affected by flooding in Bangkok, in addition to relief kits and drinking water already delivered through its volunteer network.

The company said it delivered 2,000 meal boxes and would provide 2,000 meals per day for a total of 16,000. The handover was received on behalf of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt at the Department of Drainage and Sewerage at Bangkok City Hall 2 in Din Daeng.

Chadchart said flooding had improved in many areas but that more than 40 critical points along Bangkok’s main canals still required close monitoring. He said the immediate priorities were to reduce canal water levels, improve drainage from surrounding communities and pump water from areas where flooding persisted, while monitoring upstream flows and high tides.

The BMA has adjusted food distribution to deliver meals directly to affected residents. In areas where floodwaters have receded, it is beginning recovery work including cleaning and the removal of waste and large damaged items, according to Chadchart.

The latest assistance follows an earlier effort by GULF Volunteers, also known as GULF Asa, comprising employees from the company’s head office and power plants. The volunteers packed 650 relief kits containing UHT milk, canned food, instant noodles and basic medicines, and supplied 6,000 bottles of drinking water for distribution by the BMA.

Sitamon Ratanavadi, GULF’s head of corporate social responsibility, said the company would continue working with authorities to support people affected by the floods.
