Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for Phuket as Andaman seas turn hazardous

The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms in Phuket from 6pm on October 16 to 6pm on October 17, 2026, with hazardous sea conditions possible along the Andaman coast.

Phuket is among the Andaman provinces, alongside Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Satun, expected to receive heavy rain. Thunderstorms are forecast across about 60% of the Andaman region.

The department warned that waves could exceed two metres in areas affected by thunderstorms, although seas would generally be calmer under normal conditions. Boat operators were advised to check weather conditions and routes carefully and avoid storm areas where possible.

The wider weather pattern is also raising the risk of flash floods, run-off and landslides in vulnerable areas of southern Thailand, particularly low-lying communities and areas near foothills and waterways.
