Indonesian suspect in transnational hybrid scam arrested in Phuket

Immigration police arrested a 33-year-old Indonesian man identified as Mr William at a luxury resort in Phuket on April 28, 2026, in a case tied to a transnational hybrid scam. Officials said he was the alleged mastermind of a cross-border fraud scheme that combined romance deception with fake cryptocurrency investments.

Authorities said the suspect had entered Thailand as a tourist before hiding in Phuket to evade international law enforcement. He was wanted by the FBI and was also the subject of an Interpol Red Notice for conspiracy to defraud using electronic devices.

FBI, Interpol notices and visa revocation

Investigators said the scam targeted victims through dating apps and social media. After building trust, the network allegedly persuaded them to put money into a fraudulent cryptocurrency platform.

Police said victims were shown fabricated profit reports to encourage further transfers, leading to losses in multiple countries. The case was described as part of a wider transnational criminal operation.

Immigration officers revoked the man’s visa immediately after the arrest, citing his status as a prohibited person under Thai immigration law. Officials said the operation followed Royal Thai Police policy aimed at stopping Thailand from becoming a refuge for international criminal networks.
