Influenza leads Phuket communicable disease cases in Week 35

Vachira Phuket Hospital recorded 347 communicable disease cases in its Week 35 surveillance report, with influenza accounting for 119 cases and one death.

Acute diarrhoea was the second most common condition, with 68 cases, followed by COVID-19 with 64, pneumonia with 35 and dengue fever with 16. The five conditions together accounted for 302 reported cases.

The remaining cases involved other monitored diseases, including respiratory syncytial virus, hand, foot and mouth disease, syphilis, genital and anal warts, gonorrhoea, acute hepatitis B, conjunctivitis, scarlet fever, chickenpox and food poisoning.

Of the 347 patients, 161 were male and 186 were female. Mueang Phuket recorded the largest number of cases, with 243, followed by Thalang with 53 and Kathu with 40. A further 11 cases involved patients from other provinces recorded by the hospital.

The hospital’s separate surveillance of dangerous communicable diseases recorded no patients meeting the criteria for investigation, no confirmed cases and no deaths during the week. The reported influenza death was included in the wider communicable disease figures.

Vachira Phuket Hospital continues to monitor communicable diseases through its weekly surveillance system and has asked residents, hospital staff and personnel from other departments to provide feedback through its disease surveillance dashboard satisfaction survey.
