Interpol-wanted Swedish mafia arrested in Phuket condominium

A Swedish national wanted under an Interpol Red Notice was arrested on April 9 at a luxury condominium in Phuket for alleged involvement in murder, illegal weapons offences, and drug trafficking in Sweden. Phuket Provincial Police, working alongside the Nordic Police Liaison Office, identified the suspect as Boran, a reported leading member of a mafia group linked to multiple murders and organized crime in Stockholm’s Arsta district. Authorities said Boran entered Thailand through Satun province on January 4 and overstayed his tourist visa by six days before his arrest.

Visa Overstay and Pending Deportation

Immigration records show Boran’s tourist visa was initially valid until March 4, later extended to April 3. Police confirmed he remained in Thailand illegally for nearly a week after the extension expired.

Officials stated Boran will be penalized for the visa overstay before being deported to Sweden, where he faces legal proceedings related to the alleged crimes.

Recent Crackdown on Foreign Fugitives

The arrest is part of a broader campaign targeting foreign nationals using Thailand as a base to evade prosecution. Last week, Phuket police detained a Chinese fraud suspect accused of scamming over 30 victims and causing losses of approximately 4.7 million baht.

In the same period, a South Korean man was apprehended in Pathum Thani for orchestrating a loan scam that defrauded more than 9,000 victims of 355 million baht. Police in other provinces have also reported arrests of foreign suspects involved in large-scale financial crimes and drug offences.
