Israel embassy says Patong unpaid-bill report wrongly identified tourists

The Embassy of Israel in Thailand said an online report about a group of tourists allegedly leaving a Patong restaurant without paying a bill of about B8,000 incorrectly identified them as Israeli.

In a statement, the embassy said the report was published on 19 August 2026 and spread widely on social media. It said Patong police clarified on 23 August that the tourists involved were from Saudi Arabia and Morocco, not Israel.

The embassy said inaccurate reporting of nationality could cause misunderstanding and harm Israeli tourists and the wider Israeli community. It urged media organisations, social-media users and the public to verify such claims with relevant authorities before publishing or sharing them, and asked platforms still carrying the report to consider removing it.
