Israeli Embassy warns citizens after Phuket law enforcement crackdown

The Israeli Embassy has warned its citizens in Thailand to obey local rules after Phuket authorities intensified a crackdown on offences involving tourists and foreign residents on May 10, 2026. The embassy issued the notice through its official channels after provincial officials moved to tighten enforcement against traffic violations, illegal work and visa overstays under a campaign for “high-quality and sustainable tourism.”
Officials said the warning followed a meeting convened by the Phuket governor with security agencies, police, immigration officers and representatives of foreign embassies. The session focused on ways to control behaviour that causes disturbance or violates Thai law.
Embassy cites zero-tolerance enforcement
The embassy told Israeli nationals that Thai authorities were applying “zero tolerance” measures and that breaches could bring serious legal consequences. It warned that serious offences could lead to the immediate revocation of permission to stay in Thailand.
The notice also singled out traffic cases, saying anyone driving without a valid licence would be prosecuted through the courts without exception. That language closely reflected the tougher enforcement stance now being pushed by provincial authorities.
Province says campaign aims to protect public order
During the meeting, the governor said the island remains open to visitors from around the world but all foreign nationals must follow the same laws and regulations. Officials said the policy is intended to maintain public order and protect local communities.
Provincial authorities added that the campaign is also meant to reinforce respect for Thai law, local culture and the rights of others. They described the embassy’s warning as a positive sign of cooperation between Phuket officials and diplomatic representatives to educate travellers before problems occur.
The official report of the meeting released through local government channels did not mention any other country issuing a similar warning to its citizens.
