The Israeli Embassy in Bangkok on May 8 issued an urgent advisory telling its citizens in Phuket and elsewhere in Thailand to obey local law amid a broad enforcement campaign ordered by Phuket Governor Nirut Pongsitthavorn. The warning followed a provincial crackdown on misconduct, visa overstays, unauthorized work and other violations as officials push stricter regulation of behavior linked to tourism.
The Phuket Public Relations Department said the embassy told citizens there would be zero tolerance for violations under the new approach. It warned that authorities had been instructed to enforce regulations strictly and that offenders should not expect minor fines or informal apologies to resolve cases.
Embassy warning highlights prosecutions, deportation and blacklist risk
The advisory said serious violations could trigger immediate cancellation of residency rights, deportation at the offender’s own expense and permanent blacklisting from Thailand. It also said people caught driving without a valid license would be sent directly to court, with no on-the-spot payments or warnings.
Governor Nirut’s campaign is being coordinated with police, immigration and security agencies. Officials said it specifically targets traffic offenses, unauthorized employment and visa overstays.
Speaking at a meeting with foreign community representatives, the governor said Phuket welcomes visitors from around the world but everyone must live under the same laws and regulations to ensure peace and safety for residents and tourists alike. He said the initiative is intended to strengthen the island’s image as a high-quality and sustainable destination.
