Thai immigration officers arrested alleged Israeli gang figure Matan Arviv at a luxury villa on Koh Samui on April 29, 2026, in an operation tied to Interpol and the Israeli Embassy in Thailand. The arrest, announced as part of a wider transnational crime crackdown, was carried out by the Immigration Bureau’s Surat Thani office and was reported in Phuket alongside other national enforcement actions.
Arviv, 28, was detained with four associates. Reports also identified him as Matan Arbiv, reflecting differing transliterations of his name.
Charges in Israel and immigration action in Thailand
Israeli authorities have accused Arviv of fleeing to Thailand to evade prosecution on serious charges including murder, bombings and drug trafficking. The Israeli Embassy described him as a key operational leader in the so-called Avengers criminal organization and a highly dangerous individual.
Officials said he has previously served multiple prison terms for theft, fraud, illegal weapons possession and drug trafficking. He also faces ongoing allegations involving the production or delivery of explosive devices, threats, possession or use of prohibited equipment, and drug offenses involving minors.
Thai authorities revoked his permission to stay in the country after the arrest. They also placed him on a blacklist barring future entry and are preparing to deport him to Israel.
Operation reflects broader push against foreign crime networks
Police said the arrest followed intelligence sharing and coordination through Interpol red notices. The case highlighted continuing Thai-Israeli law enforcement cooperation in pursuing fugitives linked to cross-border criminal cases.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Chutharet Yingyongdamrongkul, commander of Immigration Bureau Region 6, said the operation formed part of a Royal Thai Police drive to remove foreigners who pose threats to society.
Officials have also said they are working to prevent Thailand from being used as a safe haven by international fugitives.
Authorities urged the public to report suspicious activity involving foreigners to the Immigration Bureau hotline 1178.
