Kathu officials began investigating a child abuse case in Phuket after they were alerted at about 6:20pm on Friday, May 15, according to a report from the Social Welfare Division of Kathu Municipality. Social welfare officers were assigned immediately after concerns were raised that the alleged abuse could affect the child’s physical and mental wellbeing.
The division’s director, Chinawat Pedthong, coordinated an urgent field assessment with the Kathu Municipality Public Order and Security Unit and the Phuket Provincial Child and Family Welfare Center. Authorities said the child’s safety was treated as the priority while assistance was arranged.
Welfare assessment expands to medical, legal support
Officials returned to the area at about 9pm to collect more information and speak with people connected to the case as part of the welfare assessment. The child’s family has since filed a complaint with Kathu Police, and legal proceedings are underway, authorities said.
Namthap Rodsut, head of the Phuket Provincial Child and Family Welfare Center, said arrangements were made for the child to undergo medical and psychological examinations at hospital. The examinations are intended to assess any physical or emotional harm.
Authorities are also compiling information to support the child protection process under welfare procedures. The Social Welfare Division said the response showed coordination between local authorities and child protection agencies in handling domestic violence cases and safeguarding children’s rights and wellbeing.
