A high school student in Katu was praised nationwide after saving a foreign tourist who collapsed unconscious in the street in Phuket on May 8, 2026. The incident happened outside a popular tea shop, where the male tourist fainted, struck his head on the pavement and suffered heavy bleeding.
Witnesses feared for the man’s safety as he lay injured in the middle of the road. Jojo Savel, a half-Thai student at Katu Wittaya School, was nearby selling grilled skewers when he rushed in to help.
CPR response drew nationwide praise
Jojo immediately began CPR while waiting for emergency responders, using medical training he had received at school. After several minutes of chest compressions, the tourist regained responsiveness and later recovered consciousness.
The rescue quickly spread across social media, where users praised Jojo’s composure, courage and selflessness. Many described him as a role model for Thai youth and said his intervention may have prevented a tragedy.
