Man arrested over alleged gambling games at Phuket Vegetarian Festival
Officials arrested a man after ruling that paid shooting and balloon-dart games at the Phuket Vegetarian Festival amounted to unlicensed gambling.
A man was arrested after officials ruled that shooting and balloon-dart games at the Phuket Vegetarian Festival in Mueang Phuket district amounted to gambling without permission.
Officials inspected the festival area at about 10.20pm on October 10 following complaints about suspected gambling activities. They found customers paying for ammunition or darts and receiving the chance to win dolls or other prizes by completing the games.
One man was arrested for allegedly operating the shooting game as unlicensed gambling. Equipment used in the activity was seized as evidence.
He was taken to the Mueang Phuket district office for the arrest record to be completed before being transferred to Phuket City Police Station for further legal proceedings.
District officials said inspections were being conducted to prevent gambling and other inappropriate activities around shrine grounds during the annual Vegetarian Festival.
