Man claiming to be Phuket tourist police inspector allegedly demands free meal

A man claiming to be an inspector with Phuket tourist police allegedly demanded a free meal at a restaurant and argued with the owner after being refused, according to the Facebook page Chae Yap Phuket.

The page shared video of the confrontation on 18 October and alleged that the man became angry when restaurant staff would not serve him without charge. It also claimed he had previously visited several establishments without paying and that nightlife venues in Mueang Phuket district were being asked for monthly payments.

The man was reportedly drunk during the incident, according to the post. After the owner rejected his request, the confrontation turned to whether the restaurant was operating beyond legally permitted hours.

The footage drew criticism on social media. One commenter wrote: “If you eat, you pay. We’re all adults.” Others questioned whether a police officer had used his position to seek special treatment. Another called for the incident to be discussed on the Thai television programme Hone Krasae.

The man has not been publicly identified, and his claimed position with the tourist police remains unconfirmed.
