A 41-year-old man survived after falling from a pedestrian overpass onto the bypass road in Phuket on Monday morning, police said.

Police were called to the scene at about 9am after the Phuket 191 emergency call centre received reports that a person had fallen from the bridge onto the road below.

Pol Lt Thitiwat Asasingh, deputy investigator at Wichit Police Station, went to the scene with patrol and traffic police after informing Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang.

Officers found the injured man, identified as Tanuthip Chairent, 41, unconscious but still breathing. Rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation and ambulance staff provided emergency assistance before taking him to Bangkok Siriroj Hospital Phuket, which is nearby.

Police said Tanuthip was seriously injured and remains under close medical care.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the fall. Police said they have reviewed CCTV footage, which reportedly showed unusual behaviour by the man before he fell. Further legal action will proceed in line with their findings.
