Authorities found flames burning inside the building, which contained a massage shop, a restaurant and residential rooms, before firefighters brought the fire under control.
Residents hurt as investigators examine suspected electrical source
Two residents were treated at the scene by emergency responders. Chanokchanon suffered abrasions and back pain while escaping through smoke-filled areas, while another resident, identified only as Dao, suffered smoke inhalation.
Police said property inside the building was damaged, including kitchen equipment in the ground-floor restaurant. No estimate of the losses was released.
Initial checks found residents had heard what they described as an explosion from an electrical transformer behind the building during heavy rain and strong winds before smoke spread through the property and the fire broke out. The exact cause remains under investigation by officers from the Phuket Provincial Forensic Science Division, who were called in to inspect the scene and assess the damage.
