More than 1,200 Phuket transport operators register for fuel aid

More than 1,200 Phuket transport operators have registered for government fuel aid since April 16, according to the Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO). The office reported 1,254 sign-ups for the support programme, with 112 applications submitted directly at the provincial office in Wichit ahead of the Friday deadline.

Eligibility and Application Process

The scheme targets operators of Category 2 and Category 3 regular passenger buses, non-regular buses with 30, 31, or 36 seats, non-regular hired trucks, taxis, and both stand-based and app-based public motorcycle taxi drivers. Applications are accepted at the PLTO office in Wichit during working hours from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Officials have urged all eligible operators to complete registration before the April 24 cutoff. Both online and in-person registration methods are available, and the PLTO reports strong uptake across channels.

Funding Details and Payment Conditions

The assistance programme forms part of a national government package with a B2.06 billion budget to address rising living costs linked to global energy price increases. Financial support is tied to operational activity, with payments calculated either as fixed sums or based on distance travelled, verified through GPS tracking.

For example, public transport vehicles can receive up to B5,040 per vehicle if they travel at least 2,500 kilometres during the 42-day period from April 20 to May 31. Payments will be made via PromptPay once eligibility criteria are met, the Department of Land Transport said.
