Moroccan national injured in Patong crash as Thai motorcyclist dies in separate accident

A Moroccan national was injured after being struck by a pickup truck in Patong on 30 July, while a Thai motorcyclist died in a separate crash in Kamala the previous evening, police said.

The first incident occurred at about 4.40am on Phra Metta Road. Patong Police identified the injured pedestrian as 30-year-old Mouad Salhi. Police said 46-year-old Phuket resident Chana Thamwichai was driving the pickup when Salhi, who was walking along the roadside, reportedly stepped in front of the vehicle.

Salhi was taken to Patong Hospital for treatment. Police are reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

In the second incident, reported to Kamala Police at 6.27pm on 29 July, 48-year-old Wittaya Phromring died after his red-and-black Honda Click motorcycle left Kamala Road Soi 16 on a downhill curve and crashed into a concrete drainage ditch.

A witness told police she had been riding ahead of Wittaya and believed he was travelling too fast to negotiate the downhill section. She said he appeared to try to slow the motorcycle by dragging his foot before losing control on the bend.

Police documented the scene before rescue workers transferred Wittaya’s body to Patong Hospital. Officers are continuing their investigation and have contacted his relatives.

The Phuket Provincial branch of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said 106 people had been killed and 16,360 injured in road accidents in Phuket since the start of 2026.
