Motorcycle plunges into sea at Phuket’s Ao Chalong Pier after rider reports stuck throttle
The rider escaped with abrasions after jumping from the motorcycle before it went over a bridge at Ao Chalong Pier.
A motorcycle plunged into the sea at Ao Chalong Pier in Phuket at about 11.26am on 20 August 2026 after its rider said the throttle appeared to remain stuck and he lost control.
The rider reportedly jumped from the motorcycle before it reached the small bridge near the pier and escaped with abrasions. People who witnessed the incident helped him before he was handed to pier security staff and taken to Chalong Hospital.
According to the rider, the problem began after he refuelled the motorcycle. He said it accelerated and could not be controlled, prompting him to seek help near the Ha Yak Chalong roundabout and shout for people to move aside. He continued towards the bridge before jumping off, while the motorcycle carried on and fell into the sea.
The incident was captured by a CCTV camera and shared by the Facebook account Apichart Fishing Tour. Staff later secured the submerged motorcycle with a rope while waiting for the tide to fall so it could be recovered. Speedboats returning customers to the pier were also directed to unload at the bridgehead to keep their propellers away from the motorcycle.
