NACC examines B113.5 million Phuket marine research centre project
Thailand’s anti-corruption agency and auditors inspected a staff accommodation project at Phuket Aquarium, which has a B113,582,200 budget allocation and is scheduled for completion in December 2028.
Officials from Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and the Office of the Auditor General inspected construction work at the Phuket Aquarium on 25 August as part of oversight of a B113.5 million marine research centre project.
The project, undertaken by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, involves building staff accommodation at the aquarium, part of the Upper Andaman Sea Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center on Sakdet Road in Wichit. It has a budget allocation of B113,582,200, while the construction contract is valued at B113.5 million.
Officials were told that procurement had been completed. The contract with Rolling Concept Innovation Co Ltd was signed on 8 June, and key information was published through the government’s e-GP procurement system on 10 June.
Construction began on 8 July under a 910-day contract and is scheduled to finish on 4 December 2028.
The Phuket NACC office said after the meeting and site inspection that the project was in the contract management and construction phase, with work progressing within the timeframe set out in the contract.
NACC officials recommended that procedures be followed correctly and transparency maintained. They also instructed officials responsible for the project to comply strictly with relevant regulations and laws.
The officials heard about challenges faced by the agencies receiving the budget and stressed the importance of accurate, transparent inspection and acceptance of completed work stages. The Phuket NACC office said it would continue monitoring the agencies involved.
