National Park Rejects False Claims of Phi Phi International Airport

National Park Rejects False Claims of Phi Phi International Airport — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.

National Park Rejects False Claims of Phi Phi International Airport

Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park on May 2, 2026 denied viral claims that Phi Phi would get an international airport, rejecting an online rumor that had spread from an April 1 Instagram post. Officials said the Phi Phi international airport claim was false and stressed in Phuket-related reporting that no such project exists.

The park said the post declared, “Phi Phi will have its very own international airport starting May 1st,” and included a digitally generated image presented as a future airport site.

AI image, island terrain and land use contradict airport rumor

Officials said the circulating image was created with artificial intelligence and does not show any real location on the island.

They said the scene appeared to reference flat land between Ton Sai Bay and Loh Dalum Bay on Phi Phi Don measuring about 140 meters wide and 1,490 meters long.

That land is privately owned and already occupied by hotels, restaurants, a hospital and other businesses, making it unsuitable for airport construction.

The park also said most of the national park is made up of steep limestone mountains, terrain incompatible with airport development and aircraft operations.

TPN Media noted the original post appeared on April Fool’s Day, which is widely associated with pranks, though Thai authorities have discouraged such jokes because of the potential to mislead the public and the country’s strict defamation laws.
