Officials inspect Phuket Town shrine after land encroachment complaint

Officials from the Mueang District Office, Phuket City Municipality and Phuket City Police inspected Pud Jor Shrine in Phuket Town on Tuesday, May 12, after a neighboring landowner alleged parts of the shrine complex had been built on land under title deed No. 742. The inspection followed an order from the Mueang district chief and was led by Deputy District Chief Apichat Chantrawong with officers from the district Complaint Center.

The complaint said shrine structures had allegedly extended onto privately owned land. The landowner asked authorities to coordinate negotiations so any buildings outside the shrine’s legal boundary would be demolished or moved and the site restored to match the official title boundaries.

Boundary markers proposed, shrine committee to review wall issue

During on-site talks, the complainant proposed installing official boundary markers in line with the title deed. An adjoining wall was also raised for review, including whether it should be demolished, officials said.

Shrine committee representatives attending the inspection acknowledged the proposal but said a final position would require discussion at a full management committee meeting. District officials said both sides signed a memorandum of understanding recording the points discussed in the negotiations.

The Mueang District Complaint Center said it would continue monitoring the dispute to help secure a resolution that is fair to both parties and compliant with the law.
