Old Bangla Road beating clip resurfaces in Phuket

Footage showing security guards beating a foreign tourist outside a Bangla Road venue in Patong has resurfaced online, prompting criticism and calls for the video's date and context to be checked.

The clip shows several guards dragging the man from the venue entrance into the street before punching and kicking him, according to the report. A person who said they witnessed the incident told Thai media that the tourist was drunk and causing trouble outside the venue. The guards intervened to move him away from the entrance, but the situation escalated.

A local source told the news team that the incident happened a long time ago. The source said three drunk tourists had been refused entry, an argument began and a scuffle followed. The guards' account was that they were trying to contain the situation before it worsened.

Weerawit Kruesombat, a Patong municipal councillor, said he was shocked to see the clip circulating again. He said both sides had settled the matter privately, with compensation paid, and questioned why the footage was being reposted without stating when it was recorded or explaining the outcome.

Weerawit urged news pages and social media users to verify the date and resolution of old footage before publishing it, saying that presenting the incident as recent could mislead the public and damage Patong's reputation.
