OSMEP held a forum in Phuket on May 12 to examine legal and policy barriers affecting small and medium-sized enterprises in Thailand’s soft power industry. The meeting at the Royal Phuket City Hotel centered on a preliminary legal study on obstacles to the survival, growth and competitiveness of SME entrepreneurs in the sector.
Assoc Profs Supachet Chansasan and Wisuwat Chujanthorn presented the study’s findings before opening discussions with entrepreneurs, government officials and private-sector representatives.
Officials said the session was intended to collect opinions and recommendations on legal, regulatory and policy limits affecting SME operators, while also gathering empirical data to improve laws and support measures for Thai businesses.
Discussion focused on funding, workforce and intellectual property
Participants examined several challenges identified in the study, including access to funding, human resource development and intellectual property protection.
The discussion also covered legal obstacles affecting day-to-day business operations and broader competitiveness.
Presenters outlined policy recommendations and proposed solutions aimed at building a sustainable ecosystem for the soft power industry.
OSMEP said the forum also gave participants a clearer understanding of legal and policy issues, while allowing entrepreneurs to share direct feedback and real-world experience with policymakers.
The agency added that the meeting strengthened cooperation among government agencies, the private sector and entrepreneurs in efforts to support the future development of Thailand’s soft power industry.
