Patong’s Bangla Road beach sign to be replaced

Patong Municipality will dismantle the iconic “PATONG BEACH” sign above Bangla Road from Saturday, 26 September, to Thursday, 1 October, before installing a replacement.

The municipality warned that the work could affect people in the area and temporarily disrupt traffic. Road users have been asked to exercise caution while the operation is under way.

Kittisak Morasin, director of Patong Municipality’s Department of Public Works, told The Phuket News that the sign had been in use for more than 10 years and had deteriorated. He said it was rusty and in a state of disrepair, making replacement necessary as a safety measure, particularly given the large number of tourists using Bangla Road.

Mr Kittisak said the new sign would retain exactly the same design, including the dolphin figure and lettering. Partial dismantling work began last month.
