People's Party says Phuket MP must explain real-estate nominee case
Deputy leader Parit Wacharasindhu says the People's Party will not protect Somchat Techathaworacharoen and expects him to explain the case and co-operate with authorities.
People's Party deputy leader Parit Wacharasindhu said on 2 September 2026 that Phuket MP Somchat Techathaworacharoen must explain his connection to a real-estate nominee case and co-operate with authorities investigating it.
Parit's comments followed remarks by Justice Minister Rutthaphon Naowanat that authorities had issued Somchat a summons in the Phuket case.
Parit said he did not have the party's most detailed information and was unsure whether Somchat's current status was that of an accused person, witness or another related party. However, because the case had been linked to Somchat and questions had been raised about him as an MP, he had a duty to explain the matter to the public, Parit said.
Parit said Somchat had expressed his willingness to clarify the matter and was expected to have gone to the relevant authorities. People's Party MPs had two responsibilities when questions were raised, he said: to explain matters publicly and to co-operate fully with agencies responsible for investigating them.
Asked why an asset declaration had not previously been made to Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission, Parit said party representatives were checking the facts. Now that the matter had reached the authorities, the person concerned should co-operate and allow all agencies to investigate, he said.
Parit reaffirmed that the People's Party supported transparent politics and that any lack of transparency should be investigated, regardless of which party was involved, including the People's Party itself.
