Phuket Airport says immigration service follows official procedures with no extra fees
Phuket International Airport says immigration clearance follows official procedures and that there is no policy to charge extra fees for faster service, as officials investigate reports raised on social media.
Phuket International Airport said immigration clearance is provided under official state procedures and standards, with no policy to charge passengers extra fees for preferential treatment.
The statement was issued after concerns circulated on social media about long queues at immigration checkpoints and allegations of unofficial payments for faster service.
The airport said it is aware of passenger frustration and is working with immigration authorities to manage congestion during peak periods more effectively. Planned measures include the introduction of automated passport control systems, the deployment of additional passenger service staff to help manage queues, and closer coordination with airlines and related agencies to balance flight schedules.
Phuket Airport said confusion can arise during busy travel periods and warned that outside individuals could exploit the situation by misleading travelers. It said authorities are investigating the reports.
The airport also said it will continue improving facilities and services despite physical space limitations and growing passenger numbers, with the aim of keeping journeys through Phuket International Airport smooth and safe for Thai and international visitors.
