Phuket authorities give no Cherng Talay breakdown in nominee crackdown
Authorities inspected 6,682 high-risk juristic persons across Phuket and referred 196 cases for prosecution, but have not disclosed how many came from Cherng Talay.
Phuket authorities have referred 196 cases for prosecution after inspecting 6,682 high-risk juristic persons across the province, but have not disclosed how many of those cases came from Cherng Talay.
Phuket Provincial Commerce said 31 of the cases involved suspected Thai nominee arrangements, while 165 concerned foreign land-holding. No breakdown has been provided for the number of high-risk entities inspected in Cherng Talay, those flagged for further investigation, those cleared or those referred to police.
Officials have identified Cherng Talay and Bang Tao as areas covered by the nominee investigation, citing their rapid growth in property, tourism and foreign investment. However, the only Cherng Talay-specific nominee case publicly identified by Phuket authorities is one previously listed under Cherng Talay Police Station.
Authorities have insisted that the crackdown on foreigners using Thai nominees to illegally own or operate businesses covers the entire island.
