Phuket Biennale tour wraps up ahead of handover to Rayong

The Thailand Biennale Phuket 2025 tour concluded yesterday, April 22, with artists, organisers, and officials visiting key exhibition sites across the island ahead of the formal handover to Rayong Province later this week. Led by Phuket Art Association President Anchalee Vanich Thepbutr, the delegation began at Sukho Pavilion, Sala 4 Phak, before proceeding to venues such as Meuang Chao Fa, Khao Rang, and Bangkok Commercial College, all of which have been transformed into contemporary art spaces for the biennale.

Major Venues and Community Focus

The tour highlighted the decentralised approach of the biennale, with exhibitions spread across multiple locations to integrate art into local communities and daily life. At the Four Regions Pavilion within Sukho Pavilion, Prof Woraphot Tantinantakul explained how artworks from across Thailand were curated to reflect regional identities through a contemporary lens.

Organisers emphasised that this format fostered stronger connections between artists and residents, supporting the island’s ambitions to become a global centre for creative arts and cultural tourism.

Economic Impact and Transition to Rayong

Culture Minister Sabida Thaiseth reported that the event drew over 2.4 million visitors and generated approximately B28.97 billion in economic activity, significantly benefiting Phuket’s tourism sector and related businesses. International media coverage has further elevated Phuket’s profile as a contemporary art destination.

In preparation for the biennale’s move to Rayong, officials from the next host province toured Phuket’s key venues and exchanged knowledge with local organisers, including Ms Anchalee and Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation President Rewat Areerob. The handover ceremony is set for April 25 at Queen Sirikit Park, with the closing event scheduled for April 26 at Sukho Pavilion, Sala 4 Phak.
