Phuket event showcases Thai-Malay culture in Thalang
The fourth Colors of Andaman event is being held at Robinson Lifestyle Thalang from September 30 to October 4.
The fourth Colors of Andaman: Bridging Thai-Malay Relations event opened at Robinson Lifestyle Thalang on October 1, promoting cultural exchange and Halal products in Phuket.
Phuket Deputy Governor Romdon Hajiawae officially opened the event at 5pm, representing Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom. Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation President Rewat Areerob, government officials, private-sector representatives, members of the Andaman Phuket Muslim Women’s Association and local residents attended the ceremony.
Organised by the Andaman Phuket Muslim Women’s Association, the event runs from September 30 to October 4. It aims to strengthen understanding and relations between Thai and Malay communities through food, art, culture and lifestyle.
According to the organisers, Romdon described Phuket as a diverse, multicultural society and said the event provided an opportunity for Thai and Malay communities to learn from one another. He also highlighted the role of Muslim women in social development.
The opening included a Quran recitation by Sakif Mad-adam, with a Thai translation by Jihan Soipod. Stalls operated by the association and Al-Islamiyah Cooperative Ltd feature Halal food and drinks, clothing and other local products.
The PPAO said the event also aims to create market opportunities for local entrepreneurs and contribute to the local economy.
