Phuket foundation redeploys flood-relief team from Bangkok to Prachin Buri

A 13-member team from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation has been redeployed from Bangkok to Prachin Buri to assist people affected by flooding, taking boats, vehicles and emergency supplies from Phuket.

The team was dispatched on 26 September and arrived in Bangkok the following morning to conduct rescue and relief operations near the NIDA Intersection on Sri Burapha Road in Bueng Kum district. It evacuated about 100 vulnerable people and delivered food and drinking water to residents stranded in buildings and communities covering about 500 households, according to the report.

The team travelled with a pickup truck, a high-clearance vehicle, a six-wheel truck, a van and three boats — two flat-bottom boats and one inflatable boat. Its relief equipment included 15 personal flotation devices, 20 life jackets, lighting equipment and first-aid supplies.

The team left Bangkok on 28 September after the Prachin Buri provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office requested assistance. It took its personnel, boats, equipment and essential supplies to Prachin Buri to continue relief operations.

Phuket Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom said the deployment demonstrated the ability of Phuket’s civil society organisations and foundations to mobilise personnel and resources for disasters outside the province. He said Phuket remained ready to support flood-relief efforts as affected areas moved from emergency response into recovery, adding that urgent assistance was still needed for people whose homes and property had been damaged.
