Phuket gives Chabad Patong 30 days to remove unauthorised building additions
Authorities ordered the removal of unauthorised alterations at Chabad Patong and are checking imported goods and business records.
Phuket authorities have given Chabad Patong 30 days to remove unauthorised building additions, while separately investigating imported goods held by the establishment.
Phuket deputy governor and provincial spokesperson Romdon Haji Awae said officials had identified three main issues: the conversion of a first-floor parking area into a restaurant or café without approval, an unauthorised steel structure on the sixth floor, and imported goods that are still under investigation.
Authorities issued an order to suspend the unauthorised works on 11 September 2026 and set a 30-day removal deadline. Patong Municipality’s engineering division inspected the site on 24 September and found no further construction was taking place; removal work was under way.
The province is due to inspect the site again on 10 October 2026, when the deadline expires. If the work has not been removed, the relevant authorities will carry out the removal in accordance with the original permit. Any future application to alter the building will be considered by Patong Municipality, with structural integrity and user safety taken into account. No such application has been submitted, the province said.
Customs officials have given the Chabad manager seven days to produce import declarations for inspection. Authorities will check whether the goods were properly authorised, meet Thai Food and Drug Administration standards, and comply with Commerce Ministry rules on products without Thai-language labels.
A preliminary review found that Chabad businesses in Phuket are registered as branches under Kosher Thailand, a restaurant business, and Gan Chabad Co., Ltd., whose registered headquarters are in Bangkok. The initial examination found no irregularities in the financial trail, according to the province.
