Phuket governor orders probe into Khao Khad public land title claims

Phuket Governor Chotinrin has ordered an investigation into claims that land title deeds were being issued for about 2,000 rai of public land in Moo 6, Moo 7 and Moo 8 of Wichit, after maps and related information circulated on social media.

Provincial officials said the online posts could mislead the public and stressed that no final boundary map has been approved.

Following the governor’s directive, Mueang Phuket District Chief Siwat Rawangkul called a meeting with representatives from the Phuket Provincial Land Office, Wichit Municipality, local administrative officials, village headmen and residents to review objections to a proposed boundary survey.

According to officials, the meeting agreed that any decision would be based on verified facts and legal requirements. Authorities also agreed to set up a joint committee to inspect and define the boundary lines. The committee will include representatives from all relevant agencies in an effort to ensure the investigation is accurate, transparent and fair while protecting the rights of all parties.

Initial findings indicate that the map being shared online is only a draft prepared by central government surveyors and is not an officially certified boundary map. Authorities said the draft has not been endorsed by Wichit Municipality, local village headmen or community leaders.

Phuket Provincial Hall said any issuance of land title deeds for public land must comply with legal procedures, including verification of land records, boundary surveys and public notification so affected parties can file objections before any title deeds are approved.

Governor Chotinrin has instructed Mueang Phuket District, Wichit Municipality and other agencies to complete a full investigation under legal procedures while safeguarding the public interest and the legitimate rights of local residents, with the stated aim of preventing disputes and maintaining confidence in the process.
