Phuket governor seeks consular cooperation on safety and sustainability

Phuket Governor Chotinrin has called for cooperation between authorities, consular representatives and businesses to improve safety, order and sustainability in the province.

He made the request while chairing the “Uniting for a Safe, Sustainable, and Orderly Phuket” seminar at The Pago Design Hotel Phuket on 2 September 2026. Deputy Governors Suwit Phansengiam and Romdon Haji Awae attended alongside consular and embassy representatives, government agency chiefs, private-sector representatives and other stakeholders.

The governor said the meeting was intended to support Phuket’s development as a safe, secure, sustainable and orderly international tourist destination. Participants exchanged information and discussed issues affecting residents and visitors, including safety, tourism, the economy, society, the environment and quality of life.

Security and social concerns identified by the province included drug trafficking, violence and the safety of residents and tourists. Economic priorities included enforcing laws and addressing the use of foreign nominees in businesses to support fair competition and compliance with Thai law.

Waste management was highlighted as a key environmental issue. Health and tourism measures included a request for tourists to consider obtaining health and travel insurance before travelling to Phuket.

Chotinrin invited consular representatives to provide views on issues important to the province’s development. He said the consular corps could act as a bridge between Phuket authorities and the international community, particularly on matters involving foreign nationals living in or visiting the province.

He urged all sectors to turn policies into concrete results while respecting the law, local culture and one another.
