UPDATE: Phuket immigration revokes British man’s visa after alleged assault on tuk-tuk driver in Patong

Immigration authorities in Phuket have revoked the visa of a 33-year-old British man accused of assaulting a tuk-tuk driver in Patong, saying his actions posed a threat to public safety.

Police arrested the suspect and took him to Patong Police Station for legal proceedings, according to the report. He was later transferred to the Phuket Immigration Detention Center, where deportation proceedings are to follow.

Pol. Col. Jaroenpong Khantilo, spokesperson for Immigration Division 6, said the incident was reported in the early hours of July 2 when Patong police received a complaint from a 48-year-old driver identified as Mr. Chalor. The driver alleged he was attacked by a foreign man outside a hotel on Nanai Road at about 5 a.m. and that the assailant fled in a vehicle before police arrived.

Investigators identified the suspect only as Mr. Shane, a British national who had been legally residing in Thailand on a temporary visa before it was canceled.

Immigration authorities said the revocation was carried out under Section 36 of the Immigration Act of 1979 after officials determined his alleged violent conduct fell under Section 12(7), which covers foreigners considered a threat to public order or safety.
