CP Group will display 100 fan photographs and messages in New York’s Times Square as 16-year-old Phuket musician Nene Royal prepares for her America’s Got Talent live quarter-final.
Sixteen-year-old Phuket musician Nene Royal has secured a place in the live quarter-finals of America’s Got Talent Season 21, prompting a Thai fan-support campaign in New York’s Times Square.
Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) selected 100 photographs and messages from Thai supporters for display on a giant LED screen ahead of Royal’s appearance in the US television competition. Fans were invited to submit their messages on social media from August 14 to 16.
Royal, a singer and guitarist, reached the live shows after progressing through the Judges’ Callbacks round. She is among the season’s top 44 acts competing in the quarter-finals.
Her callback performance was a rendition of Muse’s “Hysteria”, combining vocals with guitar work. America’s Got Talent confirmed her progression with the announcement: “NENE ROYAL is heading to the live shows.”
The Phuket performer first drew widespread attention during her audition with The Cranberries’ “Zombie”. She received four “Yes” votes from judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and Mel B.
Before appearing on the international programme, Royal built experience through local performances in Phuket, including busking and live appearances.
Royal is scheduled to compete in the second live quarter-final on Tuesday, August 25, US time, which will be Wednesday, August 26, in Thailand. The 44 quarter-finalists are divided into four groups of 11, with the quarter-final performance and results shows scheduled across August 18-19, August 25-26, September 1-2 and September 8-9.
The semi-finals are scheduled for September 15-16, followed by the season finale on September 22 and the winner’s announcement on September 23. In Thailand, Season 21 is available through TrueVisions NOW and True X-Zyte on Channel 340.
