Phuket offices and banks to close on Queen Mother’s Birthday

Most government offices and bank branches in Phuket will close on Aug. 12, while shopping-centre branches are expected to remain open.

Most government offices and bank branches in Phuket will close on Aug. 12 for the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother.

The Phuket Immigration Office, Phuket Provincial Land Transport Office, Provincial Employment Office and the island’s three District Offices will be among the government offices closed, The Phuket News reported.

Most bank branches will also shut, although branches inside shopping centres are expected to operate during their normal hours.

Queen Sirikit was born on Aug. 12, 1932, and served as Queen Consort during the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. Her birthday is observed as National Mother’s Day in Thailand.

There will be no ban on alcohol sales.
