Phuket officials reclaim public beachfront land at Bang Tao-Choeng Talay

Phuket officials have reclaimed more than five rai of public beachfront land at Bang Tao-Choeng Talay after finding illegal commercial encroachment, Deputy Governor Rungruang Thimabut said. He said the joint operation by provincial and district authorities found investors had fenced off public beach land and converted it to private business use.

Investigation found restaurants and subleasing on public land

Authorities identified 16 restaurants and related structures on the reclaimed beachfront area, according to Mr Rungruang.

Investigators also found subleasing arrangements that generated private profit from public property, he said.

Officials said legal action will follow the operation.
