Phuket officials set up three checkpoints, arrest two over crystal meth
Authorities in Mueang Phuket District arrested two people for allegedly possessing crystal methamphetamine and referred two suspected users for treatment.
Provincial administration officials set up three checkpoints in Mueang Phuket District on the night of 8 August 2026, arresting two people for alleged possession of crystal methamphetamine and referring two suspected users for treatment, according to Thai Post.
The operation began at 7.30pm under the direction of Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom, with officials from the provincial and district administrations, territorial defence volunteers, village chiefs, village headmen and village security personnel taking part.
The checkpoints were established at the security post in Kheha King Kaew, Village 3, Ratsada subdistrict; in front of Suan Sripuwanat, Village 1, Wichit subdistrict; and in front of the Monkey Viewpoint, Village 1, Ratsada subdistrict.
The two arrested suspects were accused of possessing a Category 1 narcotic, identified as crystal methamphetamine or “ice”, without authorisation. They were handed over to investigators for legal proceedings. Two other people identified as drug users were documented and referred to the treatment process.
The operation followed instructions from the director-general of the Department of Provincial Administration to strengthen security measures and reduce risks linked to violence and crime in Phuket.
