Phuket old town festival showcases Peranakan heritage through light

Phuket’s historic old town is hosting the “Feel All the Feelings @ Phuket: Illuminating Peranakan – Where Heritage Comes Alive in Light” festival from 23 to 29 August 2026.

Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kedsom inaugurated the event on 23 August at the Chartered Bank intersection. Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Phuket Office, it uses projection mapping on historic architecture to present the island’s Baba–Peranakan heritage.

The festival highlights Peranakan influences in Phuket’s Sino-Portuguese buildings, cuisine, clothing and customs, including the Por Tor festival. Organisers said the initiative supports Thailand’s soft-power strategy by promoting Phuket as a destination for creative and cultural tourism while supporting local businesses and communities.

The programme is divided into four themes: “Feel the Culture”, celebrating Peranakan identity; “Feel the Art”, focusing on creative technology and artistry; “Feel the Story”, presenting the history of Phuket old town and Por Tor traditions; and “Feel the Moment”, featuring performances and cultural activities.

Shows are free and run nightly from 7pm to 10.05pm, with 10 rounds each evening.
