Phuket orders 48-hour alcohol sales ban for Buddhist holy days
Phuket has banned alcohol sales across the province from 29 to 30 July 2026, with limited legal exemptions for certain venues.
Phuket Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom has ordered a 48-hour ban on the sale of all alcoholic drinks across the province for Asalha Bucha Day and Buddhist Lent Day.
The ban runs from 12.01am on 29 July until midnight on 30 July 2026. Exceptions apply to locations permitted under Thai law, including international passenger terminals serving international flights, licensed entertainment venues, certain establishments operating in designated tourist areas, and venues hosting nationally or internationally significant events as designated by the Public Health Minister.
Kerdsom has instructed district chiefs, local administrative officials and Phuket Provincial Police to conduct inspections and enforce the order at entertainment venues and other establishments across the province.
Violations carry a maximum penalty of six months in prison, a fine of up to B10,000, or both, under Thailand’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Act 2008.
